I had the opportunity to brand Sporting Kansas City’s first USL franchise. The goal was to create a stand-alone mark that tied directly to parent organization Sporting Club and first team Sporting Kansas City. Starting with inspiration from historic Swope Park, the SPR interlock was developed and then incorporated into SKC’s shield shape.
The Swope Park Rangers, a name that originated with Sporting Kansas City’s reserve team in 2008, joined USL in its sixth season. A partner of Major League Soccer, the USL is one of three domestic professional men’s leagues recognized by U.S. Soccer and one of the largest professional soccer leagues in the world.
